A collapsed Wiltshire landscaping firm is under investigation after multiple customers claimed they were left with unfinished and “unusable” gardens.
AD Paving Ltd, a Chippenham-based company run by Daniel Wright, went into compulsory liquidation in November after a petition by HMRC, to whom it owed money.
Since then, customers from across Wiltshire, including Devizes, Calne, and Trowbridge, have claimed they were left “out of pocket” by the company and several reports have been made to Wiltshire Council’s Trading Standards team.
One customer, who has been kept anonymous, claims he paid £17,000 for unfinished work before the firm went under.
The Wiltshire resident says he hired AD Paving in October 2022 but that work on his garden was carried out sporadically and remains incomplete.
He added: “We have paid them a lot of money and they have just left our garden in a mess and walked away.
“After 15 months the work is still not finished, and our garden is unusable at best.
“There is quite a substantial amount of work to be carried out, which we are now having to get another company to complete.”
Another customer, who also wishes to remain anonymous, told this paper she paid AD Paving in advance for a project on her garden.
This was expected to take less than two weeks, but construction was delayed by several months and has allegedly left the area “unsafe.”
She said: “The problems started when they failed to honour their start date… I often didn’t hear from them for weeks at a time.
“It resembled a disorganised, building site for many months.
“The work is still incomplete and unsafe, whilst the garden is unusable and almost permanently flooded.”
Wiltshire Council confirmed it has launched an investigation into complaints made against the landscaping company since its insolvency.
Cllr Nick Holder, cabinet member for public protection, urged anyone with similar complaints to report them.
He said: “Since the insolvency of AD Paving Ltd we have received a number of complaints and these are being reviewed by our Trading Standards team to identify whether criminal offences have taken place.
“We would request that any consumers who would like to make a complaint contact Citizens Advice Consumer Service on 0808 223 1133 who will then refer the matter to us.
“Anyone owed money by AD Paving Ltd should register as a creditor by contacting the Official Receiver of Bristol, who is dealing with the insolvency, at bristol.or@insolvency.gov.uk, or call 0300 678 0016.”
AD Paving Ltd was approached for comment.
