A “dangerous driver” has been banned from the road after causing a woman serious injury during a crash in Wiltshire.
Shehryar Hussain, of Chasewater Crescent in Broughton, Milton Keynes, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving at Swindon Crown Court.
The 24-year-old had been driving a BMW i4 on the B4042 eastbound out of Malmesbury, shortly after 1pm on August 9 last year, when he overtook several vehicles at speed.
He collided with a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction and the driver, a woman in her 40s from Gloucestershire, suffered serious hand injuries in the crash.
Hussain was banned from driving for three years during sentencing on February 16.
He was also handed a 20-month prison sentence, suspended for two years, ordered to complete 150 hours of unpaid work, and slapped with a surcharge of £187.
PC Luke Hobbs of the Roads Policing Unit said: “Hussain was driving a car which was due to be delivered to a company as part of his employment – he had never driven the car before and was unfamiliar with the stretch of road where he caused this collision.
"His driving fell well below the standard expected of a competent driver and he is lucky that nobody was killed as a result of his actions.”
